Legal departments are at an inflection point

AI, data and technologies are reshaping how organisations operate and how they are regulated. At the same time, regulation is expanding in scope and complexity, increasingly intersecting with technology and business decisions.
These changes are unfolding faster than legal teams can realistically adopt through traditional ways of working, creating mounting pressure on capacity, consistency, and keeping pace with business expectations.

Legal professionals are expected to engage earlier and operate closer to the business, translating regulatory and technological change into practical guidance, while delivering more with fewer resources. This creates a widening capability gap: expectations for technology-enabled, business-aligned legal advice are rising faster than many legal professionals’ ability to consistently deliver it at speed. KPMG’s LTP is designed to close this gap.

Bridging education gap

top-notch academical knowledge, training in a diverse range of technical skills and practical experience

Modular and flexible

A modular structure that offers the flexibility to tailor your learning pathway

KPMG’s global expertise

The LTP leans on the global experience, expertise and knowledge of the KPMG network.

CPO-accredited

A professional education programme including diploma, developed in conjunction between KPMG and CPO.

What capabilities does the Legal Technologist need?

The Legal Technologist is a T-shaped legal professional bridging legal expertise with tech, business and change. First and foremost, the Legal Technologist is still a legal professional, grounded in strong legal fundamentals. In addition, there are four essential characteristics, with each three core skills, that enable legal professionals to work faster, smarter and more strategically.

  • Tech-Savvy: uses Legal Tech, automation and data to streamline legal work
  • Business-oriented: Aligns legal advice with commericial strategy and risk
  • Creative: Improves legal delivery through innovation and process thinking
  • Impact-driven: Communicates clearly and delivers advice that drives decisions
  • Legal fundamentals

“Hands-on experience with emerging technology enables legal professionals to work more efficiently and make better-informed decisions”

Peter Kits and Dorien van den Berg from KPMG and Ahlam Janati and Bart Smits from Radboud University’s Centre for Postacademic Legal Education (CPO) developed the Legal Technologist Program. They have focussed on a program that combines high-level academic knowledge with training in essential technical skills. It is delivered through state-of-the-art teaching methods and places a strong emphasis on practical experience, preparing participants for modern legal practice.

Through a hybrid delivery model, with CPO providing theoretical foundations and KPMG leading practical application and real-world cases, participants gain skills they can use immediately. This partnership enhances quality and ensures the program is a trusted, market-relevant pathway for today’s legal professionals.

Empowered by Rabobank
